Using staples

Metal staples allow you to staple your paper documents neatly and quickly. All you need is a suitable stapler, into which you insert your loose sheets. When you press down on the stapler head, it lowers and drives the staple, with its pointed ends first, through the paper. As soon as the staple hits the base of the stapler, the legs are bent together by a guide mechanism and secure the stack.

Staplers can be used to create open or closed bindings: with an open binding, the legs of the staple are bent outwards; with a closed binding, they are bent inwards. Open bindings make it easier to remove the staple and are used, for example, when it is likely that the binding will need to be opened again shortly.

In everyday office work, documents are often stapled ‘diagonally ’. This method has the advantage that the individual pages are quickly joined together whilst still being easy to read. If required, staples can also be used to produce slim brochures. To do this, fold the sheets of paper in half and nest them inside one another. Then staple two to four staples through the centre line of the document from the back, thus creating a simple spine.

Uses of staples

Stainless steel staples are mainly used in office supplies . They are ideal for filing loose documents with a small number of pages, such as lists, invoices, minutes and reports. As they are made of metal, they are robust enough to pierce not only paper of various thicknesses, but also card, textiles and plastics .
