The staple-binding process

Staple binding, also known as wire-o binding or saddle stitching, is a simple yet effective binding method. If you want to do staple binding yourself, you will need a manual stapler or a stapling machine and the appropriate staples. As a preparatory step, the sheets of paper are folded in half and placed one inside the other. You then load the staple into the stapler and push it through the centre line of the folded pages from the back. The staple then strikes the base of the stapler, where it is bent by a guide. Staple binding can use two, three or four staples. The more staples used, the stronger the binding.

If the bound documents are to be prepared for filing, staple binding can be carried out as ring-eyelet binding . In this case, the staple does not lie flat against the spine of the booklet, but forms a small eyelet through which the documents can be filed without any difficulty.
