The foldback clip was invented by the American Louis E. Baltzley in 1910 in Washington, D.C., USA. Baltzley’s father was a writer. Adding and removing individual pages from his manuscripts was a very laborious process due to the method commonly used at the time, which involved punching two holes and then stitching the pages together. Louis E. Baltzley’s invention provided a solution to this problem.
